Clinical Studies on Sciatica with Low Back Pain


Abstract
Ninty six cases of the patient suffering from Sciatica with Low Back Pain were treated and observed clinically from November 1 st. 1990, until June 30th . 1992, in the Dept, of Physiotherapy. Oriental Medical Hospital Kyung San University.
@ES The results were obtained as follows:
@EN 1. The distribution of sex in the Sciatica with Low Back Pain group was male 39.6%, female 60.4% and the male to female ratio was 1:1.5. The distribution of age was the forties and the fifties most predominant, the foties in male and the
fifties in
female.
2. The distribution of duration disclosed that chronic stage (over 6 months) was most predominant, subacute stage (1-6 months), most acute stage(1 week or under) and acute stage (1week-1month) were revealed in turn.
3. The contributing factors were mainly reason unknown, overwork and lifting etc.
4. The distribution of occupation disclosed that house wife was most predominant, no-occupation and company employee, etc, were revelaed in turn.
5. The distribution of history with Low Back Pain disclosed that first attack 57.3% was most predominant second attack, third attack or over and occasionally were revealed in turn. The patients of history with Low Back Pain were 42.7% of the
total
number of patients.
6. In the clinical observation, mainly(87.5%) revealed on limb pain in the frequency of radiating pain and the left side in male and the right side in female were more frequent. In the meridian types, the Gall bladder meridian type and Urinary
bladder
meridian type. Combined type and Medial type were revealed in turn.
7. The Grade of the seriousness of subjective symptom disclosed that Grade 2 and Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 1 were revealed in turn. The Grade 2 and Grade 3 were most predominant 79.2%.
8. In the being treatments before coming to Kyung San Univ. Hops. Western therapy was 52.1% of the total number of patients on Oriental therapy was 31.3%.
9. In the treatments. Acupuncture therapy 99.0%, Physiotherapy 88.5% and Herb medication therapy 75.0% were revealed. The patients of Acupunture. Herb medication. Physiotherapy were most numerous and the patients of Acupuncture. Physiotherapy,
the
patients of Acupunture. Herb medication therapy were revealed in turn.
10. In the period of treatment from two to ten days 54.2% and thirty days out under 88.5% were revealed and the period on the average was 15.4 days.
11. The effect of treatment was as follows: Excellent 26.0% Good 35.4%, Fair 28.1%, Poor 10.4% and so the rate of improvement was 89.6%
